Margaret McCoy

October 5, 2008

Margaret A. McCoy, 95, of Toms River, formerly of Whiting, passed away Sunday, October 5, at home. Born in Brooklyn, NY, she was raised in New York City by her parents Frank and Margaret Sullivan and later her loving step-mother, Antoinette. She retired from Metropolitan Life Insurance Company after 41 years. She later worked in her daughter's office for 15 years as Office Manager. Although neither she nor her husband graduated from high school, they both provided a Catholic school education for their children. Each day she would wave from the window as we went to school, and later from the front door as we went to work. She loved being a wife and mother. She was a "musher" loving to give and receive hugs. She was fun to be with and could laugh at herself. She played the piano by ear and loved to dance the Peabody. She made friends easily and kept them. Her daughter credits her with building her practice due to her people skills, which meant "be pleasant and respectful." She was always there - her love constant. But that love was not just for family and friends. She loved being Catholic, said her rosary daily and in her last years could be heard thanking God softly. Today, we too thank God for Margaret. She will always be with us. Mrs. McCoy was predeceased by her husband, Thomas in August 1972; her sisters, Elizabeth and Marie; her uncle, Pete McGloin, Aunt Kate and beloved Aunt May and Connor James Young, her great-grandchild. She was mother to Dr. Mary Ellen McCoy and Dr. Thomas and Sally McCoy. She had three granddaughters, Kate, Mary and Jennifer. She was aunt to Anthony Del Barto; grand aunt to Mary Furry, Anthony Frank and Michael Del Barto; great grand aunt to Timothy, Ronald, Matthew and Nicole Furry and Madison Ann Del Barto. Relatives and friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and 9 to 9:45 a.m. Friday at Manchester Memorial Funeral Home, 28 Schoolhouse Road, Whiting. A Funeral Liturgy will be offered at 10 a.m. Friday at the All Saints Chapel of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, Whiting. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Queens, NY. In lieu of flowers, please say the rosary.
