Alvin A. Russo, 87, of Whiting, passed away Wednesday, October 22, 2014 at home. Born in Brooklyn, NY, he lived in Hells Kitchen, NY, and North Bergen, NJ before moving to Whiting 20 years ago. Alvin attended the Stevens Institute of Technology for Engineering from 1950-1952. He was a member of the Varsity Squash Team. He worked as a machinist for the Brooklyn Navy Yard from 1952-1964 and then for the New York City Board of education from 1964-1983. Alvin served in the U.S. Navy as a machine gun operator during World War II. He was a communicant of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, Whiting. He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Erna; one son, Joseph A. Russo of Far Hills, NJ and four grandchildren, Arianna, Mason, Colton and Hope.
