Obituary

Barbara Ann Eckert OFS was born on November 6, 1953, in Teaneck New Jersey. She grew up in Maywood New Jersey with her three siblings, Stephen, Joanne, and Bob(Chris), and her parents Bob and Irene. She attended Our Lady Queen of Peace Grammar School and Paramus Catholic High School. She was a devout Catholic and belonged to Our Lady Queen of Peace Parish.

Barbara was a very introspective and reserved person with a kind and gentle nature who was always there to lend a helping hand when required. She went on to earn a BA in Business Administration and graduated Summa Cum Laude She held several office management administrative positions in the corporate world…

Barbara worked for Spectrum Housing and cared for adults 18 and over with developmental disabilities…. Barbara always said she loved them like they were her own children and they loved her in return…She was sad to leave the residents but could not continue as she moved….

Barbara subsequently studied to earn a nursing degree and had three years of nurse training…..

This led to her most cherished career position as a caregiver in nursing home facilities. This is where Barbara's compassionate and caring nature enabled her to create a pleasant and positive environment for the patients in her care. It is here where she excelled and spent her remaining years working.

Barbara enjoyed travel and spent a great deal doing so with a long-time companion Jack. She traveled around the world to many fascinating places and always spoke enthusiastically about her adventures.

As a youngster, Barbara enjoyed music, especially the Beatles and Paul Revere and the Raiders. She had a Barbie Doll collection and several Beatles dolls. She was serious about school and always achieved high marks. She followed Ben Franklin's advice, early to bed and early to rise. She also hated spiders and would usually let out a blood-curdling scream when she came upon one, even in the middle of the night which usually woke up everyone in the house.

Later in life, Barbara achieved her longtime goal of owning her own home. She worked hard to make that dream come true. She always spoke of having a home with a small lake or pond and ducks. This dream reached fruition when she purchased her home in Tuckerton New Jersey that she so dearly loved.

And shared that home with the love of her life Black Glama her cat which she affectionately called her Baby Doll and Prince and spoiled him royally….

Five years ago Barbara was Professed a Third Order Secular Franciscan which she was so proud of another dream come true for her served as secretary despite her illness for a short time……

It is with great sadness that we write this and will sorely miss Barbara as will her remaining family and everyone who knew her.

She is with God in Heaven and certainly Happy and at Peace….
