Clara Elaine Norton, 95, of Whiting, passed away Thursday, April 23, 2020 at Crestwood Manor. Born in Brooklyn, NY, where she was raised, she lived in Richmond Hill, NY before moving to Whiting in 1987. During the war she worked in the defense plant for American Time in Waterbury and Middlebury, CT. Years later, she worked as a Safe Deposit Box Manager for Citi Bank in Elmhurst, Queens, NY. In 1946 she married George R. Norton and had a family. Clara was the most kind, loving and giving person, putting others before herself. For her, it was never too late in the day to prepare a meal or help others. This was simply her nature. Clara was predeceased by her beloved husband, George R. Norton in 1995. She is survived by four children, Cathleen Norton, George Craig Norton, William Boyle and Venus Doherty, as well as four grandchildren, Cheryl and Daniel Norton and Sean and Ryan Doherty. Also, throughout her life, she fostered eleven children. She enjoyed time with family and friends and was a parishioner of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Whiting. A Memorial Mass will be offered on Friday, September 24th at 10:45 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, 30 Schoolhouse Road, Whiting, NJ.
