Obituary

Clarence C. (C.C.) Moore, 90, of Whiting, passed away Tuesday, November 15, 2011 at home. Born in Visalia, KY, he joined the Navy in 1938. Following boot camp in Norfolk, VA he served aboard the USS Leary and later was stationed in Trinidad where he served in Naval Aviation and was promoted to the rank of Chief Aviation Metalsmith. In 1940 he was accepted into the Navy's last Lighter Than Air (LTA) training class and transferred to Lakehurst, NJ. At Lakehurst, CC learned how to pilot free balloons and assemble "rig" and fly various LTA ships a.k.a blimps. CC remained active in Naval Aviation his entire life. After retiring from the Navy in 1959, CC served as Project Officer for the United States Air Force at McGuire AFB in charge of their aircraft maintenance and evaluation program. He then worked as an Aero Space Consultant for a number of defense/aerospace firms, finally retiring at the young age of eighty. Over the years, CC helped various military and commercial programs in the design of modern blimps and airships. CC was Trustee Emeritus for Navy Lakehurst Historical Society, past Vice President of the Naval Airship Association, lifetime member of the Elks Lodge in Lakewood, member of the Fleet Reserve and past member of the Toms River School Board. The Ready Room at historic hanger number one at Lakehurst (where the Hindenburg once moored and eventually crashed) is dedicated to Chief Clarence (CC) Moore into perpetuity. He was an usher at St. Barnabas Church, Bayville and communicant of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, Whiting. CC was predeceased by his grandson, Paul Ferguson in 1994. CC is survived by his loving wife Catherine of more than 66 years; daughter Deidre Lasfar, her husband Mustafa, grandson Josh Waller, granddaughter Buffy Waller, all of Virginia Beach, VA, and granddaughter Colleen Malbone and her husband Philip and great-grandson Dylan all of Knots Island, NC and great-grandson Curtis of Binghamton, NY; daughter Cynthia Kennedy, grandson Matthew Kennedy , granddaughter Sarah Kennedy and great-grandchildren Khalil and Kalaya all of Pensacola, FL; daughter Barbara Kemph of Toms River and grandson Tim Kemph of Virginia Beach, VA; son Ronald, his wife Patty and grandson Hunter of Mount Laurel, and grandsons Graham and Cullin of Stephens City, VA; brother Thurston of Madison, TN; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 20th at Manchester Memorial Funeral Home, 28 Schoolhouse Road, Whiting. A Funeral Liturgy will be offered at 9 a.m., Monday at the All Saints Chapel of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, Whiting. Interment will follow at Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown. In lieu of flowers, please send tax deductible donations to the Alzheimer's Association P.O. Box 96011Washington, DC 20090-6011.
