Edward (Ed, Eddie) H. Decker, 78, of Whiting, NJ, passed away on July 24, peacefully at home.
Ed was born in Staten Island, NY to Elliott and Eleanor Decker on October 10, 1945. He attended Keyport High School in NJ, and joined the US Marine Corps in 1962. He served in Vietnam and was honorably discharged in 1966. He worked briefly as a police officer in Oneonta, NY, before moving to New Jersey in 1972. He was a Chemical Operator for Ciba-Geigy in Toms River, NJ for 17 years. He enjoyed playing his guitars, cooking and searching for new recipes, fishing, metal detecting, was a nature enthusiast, and a lifetime member of the VFW. He was passionate about politics, but not sorry to miss the 2024 presidential election.
Ed is survived by his wife of 56 years, Susan vom Saal Decker, of Whiting, NJ, his daughter Jennifer Decker and her partner Douglas Gerlach of Sioux Falls, SD, his sisters Lynn Morris and Sharon Bodnar, and their many children and grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents.
There will be no public viewing or service as per Ed's wishes. Arrangements are being handled by the Manchester Memorial Funeral Home, Whiting, NJ.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Veterans of Foreign Wars, PO Box 2002, Milford, NH 03055-9700, or the American Cancer Society, PO Box 5066, Cherry Hill, NJ 08034-5066.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Angelic Hospice, who helped him through his final months with dignity.
