Erich Mehlig, 82, of the Whiting section of Manchester Township passed away at home on Saturday, January 1, 2022. Born in Santiago, Chile, he came to the United States in 1970, settling in Paterson. He lived in Maywood and Saddle Brook before moving to Whiting in 2002. Prior to retiring in 2002, he was a self-employed dental technician for over 40 years. He was a parishioner and Eucharistic Minister at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton RC Church, Whiting, and was an active in the Meadows community of Lake Ridge, and was active with C.A.R.E.S. of Whiting, where he was a volunteer driver. He enjoyed golf, traveling, and good wine. Predeceased by his parents, Walter and Maria, and his siblings, Walter and Martha, he is survived by his wife, Monica; his son Erich and his wife Lisa of Brick, his son Erwin and his wife Nancy of Chester, NJ, and his daughter Monica Cole and her husband Marty of Nazareth, PA; and his grandchildren Kristen, Matthew, Michael, Andrew, Nicholas, Kevin, Jennifer, Izzy, Bryan, and Jamie. Viewing will be Wednesday, January 5, 2022 from 4-7pm at Manchester Memorial Funeral Home, 28 Schoolhouse Road, Whiting. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Thursday, January 6, 2022 at 10:45am at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton RC Church, Whiting. Cremation will be private.
