Ethel J. McGowan, 87, of Whiting, passed away Friday, March 7, 2014 at The Pines of Whiting in Manchester. Born in Brooklyn, NY, she lived in Howard Beach, Queens, NY before moving to Whiting in 2010. Ethel was a secretary for the New York Board of Education in Staten Island, NY for 25 years, retiring in 1986. She was a communicant of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, Whiting. She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Joan and James Williams of Whiting and nine nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, March 10th at Manchester Memorial Funeral Home, 28 Schoolhouse Road, Whiting. A Funeral Liturgy will be offered at 9 a.m., Tuesday, March 11th at the All Saints Chapel of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, Whiting. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, 3620 Tilden Avenue, Brooklyn, NY.
