Eugene Byrne, 88 years old, died peacefully on December 10, 2023. Born to Robert and Margaret Furlong Byrne in New York, NY, he lived in a lively family of 10 siblings including a twin. He was educated by the Brothers of Marist College. He had become a Brother only to change his mind after meeting Gloria Jean Rose. They were married in 1965 and enjoyed 53 years of marriage. They raised two children while working opposite shifts as a teacher and a nurse.

Gene retired from Ridgefield Memorial High School after more than 30 years of teaching. During retirement, Gene dabbled in painting and earned the name Artist Papa by his grandchildren. He also enjoyed bowling and writing the bowling newsletters.

The grandchildren will forever remember Monopoly and Sorry games that would continue to the wee hours of the morning.

Gene is survived by Claire Wolpert, his wife, his older brother, William Byrne whose daily calls helped to raise his spirits and relive the ol' days, his 2 children; Eugene (Katie) Byrne and Denise (Tom) Tocci, 6 grandchildren, Brian, Meghan, and Christopher Byrne and Mitchell, Spencer, and Marissa Yeager, his sister-in-law Carol (Art) Fordonski and many nieces and nephews.

Gene is preceded in death by his parents Robert and Margaret Furlong Byrne; his siblings Thomas Byrne, Rose Smith, James Byrne, John Byrne, Margaret Phair, Robert Byrne, Michael Byrne, his twin, Marie Mingo, and Walter Byrne; and his wife Gloria Jean Rose Byrne,

Calling hour will be 9:30-10:30 am at Manchester Memorial Funeral Home, 28 Schoolhouse Rd. Whiting, NJ on Saturday December 16, 2023.

Funeral Mass will be held at 10:45 am Saturday December 16, 2023 at St Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, 30 Schoolhouse Rd. Whiting, NJ
