Florence K. Sturmfels, 89, of the Pine Ridge South Section of Whiting, passed away Monday, January 16, 2012 at Arista Care of Whiting. Florence was born in Philadelphia, PA and lived in North Jersey and Mullica Twp. before moving to Whiting in 2001. She was employed by the Passaic County Board of Elections for 13 years, retiring from there in 1984. She was the founding Queen Mum of the Red Hat Tamales Organization of Whiting and a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Whiting.
Florence was predeceased by her brother, Emery Sweeney in 2000. She is survived by her husband Edward; two daughters & sons-in-law, Christine & George Leary of Waretown, NJ and Donna & Michael McAllister of Barre, VT; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Family and friends may call Wednesday from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Manchester Memorial Funeral Home, 28 Schoolhouse Rd., Whiting. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Watson of Christ Lutheran Church Officiating.
