Harriet Knecht (nee Steinert), 84, of Whiting, passed away peacefully into the loving arms of her precious savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, October 15, 2011. Born in North Bergen, she lived in Ridgefield Park for 47 years before moving to Whiting in September 2011. She loved being a homemaker and was known for her homemade meals, cookies and generous hospitality. Harriet was a faithful member of the Englewood Assembly of God Church. She loved children and taught Sunday school for over 50 years. She was the beloved wife of John; devoted mother of her two children, Doris Hiley and her husband, Paul and John Knecht and his wife, Lynnette; dear sister of her brother, Richard Steinert; adoring grandmother of Lauren and Allison Hiley and loving aunt of several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be on Wednesday, Oct. 19, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Manchester Memorial Funeral Home, 28 Schoolhouse Road, Whiting. A service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, Oct. 20, at 11:00a.m. Interment will follow at Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown.
