It is with profound love and sadness that we announce the passing of our cherished mother, Helen Marie Fields. Helen, age 95, passed away peacefully at home January 3, 2025 after a long illness.
Born on May 16, 1929 on a farm in Sewell, New Jersey. Helen was one of four children who shared many adventures on their farm.
Helen married the love of her life Joseph Fields in 1950. They raised their family in Deptford, New Jersey. They were active with the formation of the St. John of God School for children with special needs in Deptford, NJ. They also established along with five other parents one of the first privately owned group homes in Toms River, NJ.
Helen was a bookkeeper for many years for several small companies in South Jersey. She was an avid, feisty and knowledge football fan. The NY Jets and Penn State Nittany Lions were her favorite teams.
After retirement they moved to St. Pete Beach, Florida and spent 40 years living on the water and enjoying life. They returned to New Jersey for the summers and holidays eventually returning to new Jersey in their later years.
Helen was a devout Catholic. Her strength, compassion, determination and loving spirit was an inspiration. Helen had a gift for storytelling and shared many of her stories with her children and grandchildren.
Helen is predeceased by her husband of 45 years and survived by her four children; Cheryl (John), SInger Island, FL, Joseph (Ellen) Woodstown, NJ, Sandra (Richard) Oceanport, NJ and Robert Wall, NJ.
Helen is also survived by eight grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren who affectionately called her Granny.
There will be a Funeral Mass on January 18, 2025 at 10:30 am at Precious Blood Catholic Church in Monmouth Beach, NJ.
The family wishes to acknowledge and thank Sherry Bruno who was Helen's caretaker for the last six years.
