Obituary

James W. Humphreys, known lovingly as Jim, of Freehold, New Jersey, passed away on April 1, 2026, at the age of 96.

Born on July 11, 1929, in Brooklyn, New York, Jim lived a long and meaningful life marked by love, devotion, faith, and family. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army Counter Intelligence Corps in the post–World War II era. Following his military service, he grew a successful career and retired with Merck & Co., where he worked as a Project Engineer and ultimately retired at the level of Section Chief. Jim was married to the love of his life, Elizabeth Mary "Betty" Humphreys (Mulligan), for 63

years. Betty predeceased him in May of 2021. Together, they were truly "that couple" who held hands until the day they parted, setting a lasting example of love and devotion for their four children. Deeply devoted to his Catholic faith, Jim became a Eucharistic Minister and faithfully served his

parish communities with compassion and humility.

Jim was predeceased by his daughter, Patricia A. Andreadis; his son, Kevin W. Humphreys; and his grandson, Ryan Humphreys.

He is survived by his son, James J. Humphreys and his wife Robin; his son, Douglas E. Humphreys and his wife Nancy; and his daughter-in-law, Mary Lee Humphreys, wife of his late son Kevin. Jim was a very proud Grandad to Danielle and Bill Rue, Andrew and Sara Andreadis, Jessica Humphreys, Matthew Humphreys, Devin Humphreys, Madelon Humphreys, and Ainslee Humphreys. His great-grandchildren Billy, Emily, Adam, Ashley, James, his second namesake, and Jackson,

his "little buddy"; will carry forward his legacy with love and pride.

Known to many as "the Artist," Jim possessed a remarkable talent and a deep love for sketching, pen and ink, and oil painting; especially portraits of people. Among his most cherished works was his unique rendition of the "Campbell Soup Kids," where he lovingly replaced their faces with those of his own children. A prolific reader and gifted storyteller, Jim had a lifelong passion for learning and sharing his stories, leaving lasting impressions on all who had the privilege to listen.

Jim's greatest legacy was the love he gave so freely to his family. He will be deeply missed and remembered forever for his devotion, his faith, his creativity, and the beautiful life he shared with those around him.
