James J Mellon, Sr, 78, of Whiting, passed away Saturday, December 26, 2015 at Shorrock Gardens, Brick. Born in Plainfield, NJ he lived in Edison, Virginia Beach, and Freehold Boro before moving to Whiting in 2000. James served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He worked as a transportation allocator for Exxon in Linden, NJ. James was an avid Bowler and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a communicant of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton church, Whiting. James is survived by his beloved wife, Catherine (nee: Chemidlin) Mellon, of 55 years; one son, James J. Mellon, Jr. of Alabama; three daughters, Pattie Buschhoff, of Florida, Elizabeth Ginocchio, of Florida, Barbara DeGeus, of Virginia Beach; nine grandchildren; and close friend, Ben Kopacz. Visitation will be Tuesday December 29, 2015 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 7:00 to 9:00 pm at Manchester Memorial Funeral Home, 28 Schoolhouse Road, Whiting. A Funeral Liturgy will be offered at 10:45 a.m., Wednesday, December 30th at the All Saints Chapel of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, Whiting. Interment will follow at Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown.
