Janet B. Ernst, 89, of Whiting, NJ passed away at home on October 13, 2026. Janet was born in Elizabeth, NJ to parents George and Gunhild Gleason. She was raised in Cranford, NJ, where she met and married her husband, Eddie, on January, 4, 1958. Together they raised their family in Morris Plains, NJ, where she was an active member of St. Virgil's Church. She moved to Chatham, NJ in 2001 before they settled in Whiting in 2012.

Janet's first priority was being a mother and wife. After the children were raised she worked at Morristown Memorial Hospital and for Tiffany & Co. in Parsippany, NJ before her retirement in 2003. Janet enjoyed anything that involved her family. Rides in the country with Eddie, vacations with family, and seeing her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the simple pleasures that brought her the most joy. When she was home, Janet was digging in her garden, cheering on the New York Yankees, or listening to her favorite show tunes.

Janet is predeceased by her son Edward Ernst Jr. (1962). She is survived by her loving husband, Edward Ernst; her children and their spouses, Ellen Ernst and Bruce Hoover of Vero Beach, FL, Nancy and Brian Pawlak of Long Valley, NJ, James and Nadine Ernst of Manchester, NJ, and Carol and Michael Bozza of Morris Plains, NJ; her grandchildren, Michael (Keah), Andrew, Kelly, David (Kaylyn), Danielle (Andrew), Ellen, Elizabeth, and Edward; her great-grandchildren, Lilly, Maisy, Ella, and Luke; and her sister Mary Ann (Richard) Kopin and Kathleen Gleason.

A viewing will be held on Sunday, October 18, 2026 from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Manchester Memorial Funeral Home, located at 28 Schoolhouse Rd. Whiting, NJ.

A mass will be offered on Monday, October 19, 2026 at 10:45 am at Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, located at 30 Schoolhouse Rd., Whiting, NJ. Interment will follow at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veteran's Memorial Cemetery.
