John J. O'Connell, age 82, passed away peacefully on October 30, 2025. He was born on February 9, 1943, in New York City, NY, to parents Joseph and Alice O'Connell.

John grew up in Harlem and throughout his life resided in Cornwall, NY; Roxbury Township, NJ; Orlando, FL; and, most recently, Whiting, NJ.

He proudly served as a New York City Firefighter before retiring and becoming the owner and manager of Townline Hardware Store in Randolph, NJ. John was a man of great integrity and generosity, known for his strong work ethic and his unwavering dedication to family and community. In his leisure time, he enjoyed bowling, fishing, golf, and taking walks with his beloved dog, Bella.

John was predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Diane O'Connell, his grandson, Robert Crean, and his parents, Alice and Joseph O'Connell. He is survived by his loving children: Mary and Ira Adelman, Betty Jo Armstrong, Joseph and Sabrina O'Connell, Carolyn O'Connell and Stephen Holmes, and Craig and Sheila O'Connell; his cherished grandchildren: Ryan Armstrong(Heather) and Kristin Freeman(Mike), Nicole O'Connell(Eric) Caitlin Ream(Zach), Aria, Bradley, and Alice O'Connell; and his great-grandchildren Rory Christensen, Layla and Ivy Ream. He will also be missed by his loyal companion, Bella.

A memorial visitation will be held on Monday, November 17, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 12:00 p.m., at Manchester Memorial Funeral Home, 28 Schoolhouse Road, Whiting, NJ 08759
