Joseph J. Vick, 97, formally of Whiting passed away Friday, June 24th at his home in Edison. Born in Albion, NY, he lived in Iselin and Whiting before moving to Edison in 2008. Joseph was a Staff Sergeant in the 8th fighter Squadron, 49th fighter group in the US Army; a WWII Veteran serving in the Philippines and Japan. He was the former owner of Westbury Sweet Shop in Iselin for 10 years; before becoming the manager of Stireles Liquor Store and Deli in Verona, retiring in 1978. Joseph was a member of the Whiting American Legion Post #502, Village 7 Residence Club, Fernwood bowling league and golf club. He was a communicant of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, Whiting. Joseph was predeceased by his wife of 69 years, Josephine, in October 2009. He is survived by his son, Carl Vick of Edison; two brothers, Theodore and Edward both of Arizona; two grandchildren, Kenneth of Edison and Brian and his wife Nancy of Edison; 8 nephews and 7 nieces. Cremation will be private and under the direction of Manchester Memorial Funeral Home, 28 Schoolhouse Road, Whiting.
