Obituary

Leonard Montone Jr., age 91, of Whiting, NJ, passed away on February 23, 2025, at Pines Village. Born and raised in Yonkers, NY, he later raised his family in Yorktown Heights, NY before retiring in Whiting. Leonard leaves behind a legacy of love, dedication, and unwavering loyalty to his family, friends, and country.

A proud Navy veteran of the Korean War, Leonard worked for Con Edison in Westchester County, retiring in 1995 after decades of hard work. He was a lifelong Yankees fan, and one of his most cherished memories was being at Yankee Stadium with his family on July 4, 1983, to witness Dave Righetti's incredible no-hitter. In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting and fishing, and as time passed, he embraced new hobbies including golf, poker, and pool. A man of great curiosity and intellect, Leonard was always a dedicated reader and a conversationalist whose quick wit and lively stories captivated those around him.

Leonard is remembered for his kindness, caring nature, and boundless love for life. His dedication to his family, his work ethic, and his ability to make friends and leave lasting impressions on all who met him are the qualities that will continue to define his memory.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife Joyce in 2021, his daughter Kimberly Brennan in 2023, and each of his five siblings. Leonard is survived by his sons: Leonard Montone III and his wife Christine of Stoneham, MA, and David Montone and his wife Naomi Buchman of New York, NY. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren: John O'Brien, Timothy Brennan, Harriet Montone-Buchman, Wiley Montone-Buchman, and Isaac Montone-Buchman.

A Military Honors ceremony will be held at 11:00 AM on March 14, 2025, at the Brig. Gen. W.C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Wrightstown, NJ, where he will be interred beside his wife, Joyce.
