September 17, 1942 – April 18, 2024
Richard J. Nolan Jr., 81, of Middletown, NJ passed away on Thursday, April 18, 2024 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank after a long illness. Born in Englewood, he lived in Vernon and Sussex for many years before moving to Whiting in 2013. He recently moved to Middletown to be closer to family.
A veteran of the United States Coast Guard, he was a salesman at Franklin Sussex Chrysler Plymouth for 17 years, and later was later employed by Primerica Financial Services until retiring. Dick was a Permanent Deacon, ordained in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Paterson in May 2005. He was a graduate of Teaneck High School and later attended the College of St. Elizabeth, Convent Station, in preparation for his ordination. He was a parishioner of Saint Monica RC Church, Sussex, NJ, and served as a Deacon there until he moved to Whiting and became a parishioner of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish. Dick had artistic talent in various mediums such as drawing, sculpture, photo colorization, and furniture refinishing. He enjoyed playing in men's softball leagues and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was friendly, had a gift for chatting and enjoyed meeting new people. He could talk to anyone as if he had known them for years.
He was predeceased by his wife, Barbara, in 2022. He is survived by his children, Kathleen Heady and her husband Andrew of Middletown, Joseph Nolan and his wife Monica of Montague, and Erin Smith and her husband Andrew of Malverne, PA; his grandchildren, Ryan, Victoria, Liam, Charlotte, Eloise, Barbara and her husband Sebastion, and Robert and his wife Angelina; his siblings, Mary Nolan, James Nolan and his wife Colleen, Therese Drosback and her husband Gary, Vincent Nolan and his wife Debbie, and Eileen Brady and her husband Bruce.
Visitation will be on Sunday, April 21, 2024 from 2-6 pm at Manchester Memorial Funeral Home, 28 Schoolhouse Road, Whiting. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday, April 22, 2024 at 10:45am at the All Saints Chapel of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, 30 Schoolhouse Road, Whiting. Cremation will be private.
