May 16, 1929 – March 4, 2023
Robert M. Watson, 93, passed away on Saturday, March 4, 2023 at The Pines at Whiting. Born in Laconia, NH, he grew up in Yonkers, NY and lived in Pompton Lakes and the Green Island section of Toms River Township before settling in Whiting 12 years ago.
Mr. Watson was in the shipping industry for over fifty years. He was employed for many years at Sea Train, and was later the owner/operator of Caribbean Shipping Agencies until retiring. He was a parishioner at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton RC Church, Whiting, and was an active member of Saint Mary RC Church while living in Pompton Lakes, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus Marian Council 3801 there. Mr. Watson enjoyed the activities of living on the water in Green Island, and loved the time spent fishing, crabbing and boating there with family and friends. He enjoyed camping and traveling with his family.
He was predeceased by his wife, Eleanor in 2021, his daughter Joyce in 1975, his son-in-law DC Hunt, and by his brother, David Watson. He is survived by his children, Richard Watson and his wife Beth of Wyoming, Sharon Hunt of Oregon, Laura Renfer and her husband Ed of Londonderry, NH, and Carol Chimento and her husband Frank of Fanwood, NJ; six grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
A memorial gathering will be held on Tuesday, June 27, 2023 at Manchester Memorial Funeral Home, 28 Schoolhouse Road, Whiting from 9:00am-10:30am, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:45am at the All Saints Chapel of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton RC Church, 30 Schoolhouse Road, Whiting, NJ. Interment of cremains will follow at Maryrest Cemetery, Mahwah.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff and caregivers of the Pines at Whiting and Holisticare Hospice for the loving care provided to Robert.
