Viola K. Abbey, 91, of Whiting, passed away Friday, November 9, 2012 at Community Medical Center in Toms River. She was born in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, NY. Vi was the bookkeeper/treasurer at the Navy Federal Credit Union at Lakehurst Naval Air Station, Lakehurst, NJ. She volunteered for 25 years at Miles Kimball Hospital, Lakewood. Vi served for over 50 years on church altar guides and she was a charter member of Christ Lutheran Church, Whiting. Vi was predeceased by her husband, David in 1991 and her daughter, Karin in 2002. She is survived by one daughter, Barbara Horton of Lincolnville, ME and two grandchildren, Seth Horton and Andrew Connolly. A Memorial Service will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 20th at Christ Lutheran Church, 40 Schoolhouse Rd., Whiting. Interment of cremains will follow at Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown. A reception will take place at Christ Lutheran Church after the interment. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the American Red Cross Disaster Fund. Arrangements are under the direction of Manchester Memorial Funeral Home, Whiting.
