Fred Whiteley

Fred Whiteley has been an active member of the funeral profession since 1987 when he began working for a local funeral home in his hometown in Middlesex County. He served his apprenticeship with a Toms River funeral home while attending the prestigious American Academy-McAllister Institute of Funeral Service in New York City. He graduated with honors and served as president of his class. After becoming a licensed funeral director, Fred owned and operated a funeral home in Middlesex County for nearly twenty years before deciding to return to Ocean County.
Fred is a longtime member of the New Jersey State Funeral Directors Association and the Monmouth and Ocean County Funeral Directors Association. Additionally, he is a 38-year member and Past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus and is currently a 3rd Degree Member at Our Lady of the Pines Council 9852, Whiting, and a 4th Degree Member of the Msgr. John F. Brady 4th Degree Assembly, South Amboy. He was honored by the Toms River Rotary Club as a Paul Harris Fellow. In 2016, he was invested as a Knight in the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem and was recently promoted to the rank of Knight Commander.
As a respected member of the funeral profession, Fred was appointed by NJ Governor James McGreevey to a three-year term on the New Jersey State Board of Mortuary Science in 2003, serving that term and an additional two years until his replacement was appointed. He has been an active member of the Sayreville Association for Brain Injured Children for 48 years, has been a member of the Association's Executive Board for nearly 20 years, and has served as president since 2017. Sayreville BIC provides a six-week summer camp and a Saturday morning recreation program and outings for special needs children and adults.
Fred is the proud father of four amazing children: Mary and her husband Jason Turenchalk, who are both 2021 graduates of Clemson University and are both currently serving as Captains in the US Air Force at Barksdale AFB, Shreveport, LA; Maggie, who attends St. John's University in Queens, NY; Fred IV who attends American University in Washington, DC; and Emma, who is a senior at Donovan Catholic High School in Toms River. In 2023, he became a grandfather when Mary and Jason welcomed their son Cameron into the family.
